35th Annual Safe & Sober
2021 Grad Night
June 12, 2021
We are hard at work considering alternatives to our traditional Grad Night for 2021. Because of Marina's decades long tradition of having Grad Night on campus, every effort is being made to anticipate and plan for the closest experience to a traditional Marina Grad Night allowed by the State, County and District.
As such, we are currently planning to move Grad Night entirely outdoors. The date and time has also been tentatively moved from the night of graduation (9pm to 4am) to the Saturday before graduation June 12th (6pm to Midnight). We also hope to provide modified versions of many of the traditional elements, including a DJ,, Magician, caricature artists, guessing jars, casino, bingo, carnival games, food and thousands of dollars in prizes.
The pricing structure for a 2021 Grad Night ticket will be modified based on the type of event we will be allowed to provide. Because we may not know what that is for a few more months, tickets will no longer be offered for sale until the new price is established. For those students who purchased a ticket at Registration, some or all of the purchase price will be refunded to you in June.
Local Grad Night events such as Disneyland/California Adventure and Knotts are not being offered. Universal Studios continues to advertise their plans for Grad Night, but we did not see that as a cost effective and reasonable alternative to our on campus event.
We continue to work closely with the school administration, keep our eye on any news or guidance from the county and state and continue to have discussions with our vendors regarding if and how they can provide a safe and healthy service. Things may be changing for the better rapidly over the next few months, so we are making every effort to keep all of our options open. But, because we are a Marina Booster Club, we are limited based on what the school will authorize.
The 2021 Marina Grad Night committee has not forgotten our graduating class of 2021. We know this pandemic has been even harder for you than the class of 2020, who at least had half of a traditional Senior year. Last year we had to quickly scrap all of our Grad Night plans, refund all of the pre-purchased tickets, and re-imagine a "virtual" Grad Night with online guess jars and raffle prizes for participants. We hope that we will be able to provide much more than that for the Class of 2021.
Please be patient with us as we move forward with our planning. We will provide updates as we know them via ParentSquare, the Marina Newsletter Email Blast and our website, http://www.marinagradnight.org.
